Summary

This week I decided to go back and pick up this second set from the band's performance back on January 16, 1970 at Springer's Inn in Portland Oregon.

This recording has some issues - especially during the first two numbers - the Cumberland Blues is cut both at the start and the end, and Me & My Uncle is cut at the start. I've included both out of a love of completeness and because they still sound great. Some highlights here include a wonderful 'Dire Wolf' - with an admonition from Jerry to sing along, a fine 'Uncle John's Band' and Pigpen's 'Easy Wind'. I think you'll enjoy the rest of this set as well, especiall if you are a fan of 'Anthem of the Sun'..

0:08.0	This week I wanted to resume and pick up where I'd left off a couple weeks ago before Bob's
0:12.5	untimely passing and play you the second set from the band's performance at Springer's Inn
0:17.5	in Portland, Oregon, January 16th, 1970. Quite an excellent recording,
0:23.1	in my opinion. This second set, if it is indeed a second set, not one long first set. We don't
0:28.9	know for sure. It starts out with a Cumberland Blues, but the first two songs in this set
0:34.9	are in this recording are cut. The Cumberland's is cut at the beginning and the end. It's quite abrupt, and I apologize for that, but, you know, that's the way it is. And me and my uncle, it follows. The beginning is cut. However, in both cases, the music is so interesting, I certainly wanted to include it. Then, me and my uncle goes into a really nice Dyer Wolf.
0:55.2	I really enjoy that one.
0:56.7	And then an Uncle John's band that I think is also quite superb.
1:00.9	Really nice, little bit different arrangement and I think they're both quite interesting.
1:08.3	Easy wind follows, always a rare treat to hear Pigpen sing that.
1:12.6	And then we get into Samantha of the Sun with cryptical envelopment into drums,
1:16.6	into the other one, back into cryptical. And then that's supposed to go into Cosmic Charlie.
1:20.6	We do have Cosmic Charlie here. We don't know for sure whether this Cosmic Charlie actually
1:25.6	followed the cryptical or if it was added
1:28.2	on on this tape. But in any event, one of my favorite songs from the early days, and I hope you
