President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are set to meet today in Anchorage, Alaska, to discuss the war on Ukraine. While aboard Air Force One, Trump told reporters why he was having the meeting. I'm not here to negotiate for Ukraine. I'm here to get him at a table. And I'm not doing this for my health, okay?

I don't need it. I'd like to focus on our country. But I'm doing this to save a lot of lives.

He stopped short of promising security guarantees for Ukraine as part of a deal to end the war.

But warned Russia the economic consequences would be severe if no peace agreement was reached. Trump also left the door open for business discussions with Russia.

But they're not doing business until we get the war settle.

Any peace deal would need to involve an agreement on territory.

Russia currently occupies almost a fifth of Ukraine's land.

Ukraine's president, Vladimir Zelensky, was excluded from this summit,

but said in a statement today, Ukraine is counting on America and ready to work as productively as

possible for peace. Washington, D.C.'s Attorney General is suing the Trump administration over the

takeover of the city's police department. It comes after Attorney General Pam Bondi ordered the city's mayor and police department

to accept the head of the Drug Enforcement Administration Terry Cole as the district's

so-called emergency police commissioner.
