I get extremely frustrated because there's, for me, what it's important for black people

to understand about the state of the society that we live in.

And to the extent that black people occupy positions

of leadership and power for the most part are shared croppers of white corporate and political

power, right? And that a lot of black folks that get where they are in terms of those positions

has very little to do with their commitment and service to black people and more to do with

their ability to navigate white space. And I think the conflation of those two things is damaging.

Because I think that what happens is that people then get conditioned to think about,

okay, what versions of blackness will white folks support, elevate resource?

And the versions that white folks will do that about are the kinds of black folks that are not trying to build power to be independent.

Right?
