Today we are in Deuteronomy chapters 14 through 17 reading out of the ESV by Crossway translation.

So let's go ahead and pray and prepare our hearts. Our Father who are in heaven, hallow would be your name. That means you are holy, and we revere your name as such. Thank you, Lord, for being such a good, good God. And we recognize that every single day.

And we recognize that every single day. The more and more that we read and the more that is

unveiled of your character and of who you are, we are realizing, Lord, how small we are, and how

mighty you are. Thank you, Lord, for covering every base, every part of our lives. We can find the answer to right here in this

book. And so I pray with any questions that might be lingering or hanging over our heads, God,

that they will be placed before your feet today. And that Holy Spirit, you will answer us.

Thank you, Lord, for giving us the opportunity to be able to come before you boldly, but we still do so with a humble

heart. Give us this day our daily bread, everything that we need as we open up your word, your daily

mana that you are providing for us, and help us to understand that it is indeed nourishing us the way

that you intend for it to. Please forgive us of our sins. Help us also to forgive others who have sinned

against us, and lead us not

to temptation, but deliver us from evil for yours is the kingdom and power and glory forever.

In Jesus' name, amen. So we're starting off here in chapter 14 with a reminder about the clean

and the unclean foods. You are the sons of the Lord your God. You shall not cut yourselves or make

any baldness on your foreheads for the dead.

So these are pagan mourning practices that they would do.

They would actually cut an area of baldness right in the middle of their forehead whenever someone would die.

And they believe that in doing so, this would allow them to be able to exercise control not only over their emotions, but also over their gods.
