our guest is one of the most beloved actors of our time David Swimmer.

Swimmer first made his name during the era of must see TV on NBC's friends

for which he received his first Emmy nomination 21 years ago. This year for his work as Robert Kardashian on FX's

The People versus O.J. Simpson, he is nominated again, this time in the category of Best

Supporting Actor in a limited Series or TV movie.

The 49 year old got his start in the theater of Chicago and only began coming out to

LA out of a need to make a more substantial living. For seven years he was a struggling actor,

scraping out a living as a waiter and in bit parts on TV series. But when a former

collaborator wrote the role of Ross Geller on the show that would become Friends, his life changed forever.

For 10 years, Friends was one of the most popular series on television, attracting at its height

52 million viewers.

While Friends Success put Swimmer on the map, it also left him typecast.

And for years thereafter, he struggled to be seen as anyone else,
