Hello and welcome to the Sunday with New Patterson podcast. With Brexit's retaking centre stage,

I spoke to the Brexit Secretary David Davis this week about the progress of negotiations.

I was also joined by the

shadow chief secretary to the treasury, Peter Dowd, and we heard from the chief of the defence staff,

Sir Stuart Peach.

There may be a huge amount going on at the moment, at home and abroad, but in the end, we always seem to come back to Brexit.

This week marked the midway point between referendum day last year and the day on which we are set to officially leave.

David Davis, the Brexit Secretary, marked the occasion by returning to Brussels for the latest

round of talks with his EU counterpart, Michel Barnier.

If you look closely, you can just about see signs of progress, but everything moves slowly

and there is still a long, long way to go.

Gaps remain to be bridged, deals remain to be done, and that's before the government even

begins to think about selling any

agreements to Parliament and the people back home. With all this in mind, I sat down with Mr Davies

in Brussels this week and asked him if he understands why some people are concerned about an apparent
