Hello, Lakers Nation. Welcome in to the Lakers Nation.com podcast. My name's Trevor Lane and it's game day. Lakers Heat, another day of summer league action here in early one, 1.30 p.m. Pacific time. Coming out with us on the Lakers Nation.com YouTube channel as well as over at playback.com. We'll be doing a little play by play, taking questions, comments, all of that. It's a good time. It's like a party coming out with us while we watch some Lakers basketball. Now, a lot to get into on today's show. We'll talk about the game. Lakers, Heat. What are we looking to see? Some really important things there. Plus, recap a little bit of yesterday's game, a loss of the Golden State Warriors. What went wrong, what also went right? We'll talk about that. Also, the Cam Whitmore situation.

0:42.5

I've had a lot of people asking me, well, if the price was two seconds for Cam Whitmore,

0:47.2

why didn't the Lakers just write a pass wrong and bring in Cam Whitmore? Why not trade for them?

0:52.4

I'll talk a little bit about that and what went on there? Plus, uh, the trade front and kind of free agency front in general, why is nothing going on seemingly right now, aside from a few things that did happen yesterday. I'm going to talk a little bit about that to what could be going on with the market. So lots to dive into. Make sure you do subscribe right here to the Lakers Nation.com YouTube channel. If you guys want to follow me personally, you can find me at Trevor underscore Lane on X at Trevor Lane, NBA on Instagram and threads. If you want to see my work covering the entire NBA over at the NBA front office show, as well as a lot of breaking news on the rumor front and everything else

around the league over at the basketball bulletin. All right, let's get into it here.

1:33.0

The Lakers and Heat take on each other here today, 1.30 p.m. Pacific time. Again, come hang out.

1:38.6

But let's start with what happened yesterday. It was a pretty good first half for that Lakers team. Pretty good first half for the summer Lakers. Now, was it messy? Yeah, absolutely. But that's summer league basketball. That's the way it goes. It's what you're signing up for. Speaking of which, Summer League in Las Vegas is going to kick off on the 10th. And if you do want to make the trip out there and go hang out, I think it's going to be a lot of fun. Summer League always is a blast. You get a chance to see a lot of games. But you're not going to be seeing the highest caliber basketball. We saw a ton of fouls committed in this game. Felt like every possession there was a foul committed, some sloppy play. But remember, these are teams that are thrown together. They get a few days of practice in, and then they're out there on the floor playing. And a lot of these guys are not guys that are going to be NBA players that are out there. They're guys that are hoping to make their way in or fight the way in to the NBA. But I guess let's do the positives first because the big story,

2:35.1

of course, is Dalton Connect. So let's talk about the positives first here.

2:38.8

Cole Swider, he did what we know he can do, right? 24 points, six of eight from three, the man

2:45.0

can shoot the basketball. We've known Cole Swider for a few years now. He's been with the Lakers

2:50.2

in the Summer League before. He's been with the Lakers during the season. And we know that he is an elite shooter. That's just what he is. He's an elite three-point shooter. The problem has always been the other parts of his game, not quick enough laterally, not good enough rebounding the ball. It's the defense. It's everything else in his game.

3:09.8

And I think we still see parts of that. Eight rebounds was pretty nice in this one. I thought he was

3:14.1

active there. The problem is he kind of would slot in as a four in today's game, but he's not really,

3:19.9

but then he's not quick enough to defend threes. I'll tell you what, again, the man is legitimately an elite shooter and put on quite a performance in this one. And then DJ Stewart was the other big story coming out of this game for the Lakers, you know, seven to ten shooting 20 points. For a while there, he was perfect in the game, had no turnovers, no missed shots, did finish with four turnovers ultimately, but he was impressive. I thought DJ Stewart was very, very good. There's an interview with him up on the Lakers Nation.com YouTube channel right now, if you guys want to check that out. But seven for 10 shooting, five and five from the line. Did a great job, I thought, getting into the paint, distributing from there, six assists, did pick up some turnovers in the second half the

3:57.8

warrior's defense started to bother him but he's certainly somebody to keep an eye on

4:01.2

and another guy that was impressive to me was derries basely former first round pick

4:05.2

did a nice job three block shots in this game so another person to keep an eye on now

4:10.6

that said that said um part of this game, the story was not just who played,

4:17.6

but it was about who didn't. No Bronny James in this game, no Eric Dixon. Hopefully both of

4:22.3

them play today against the Miami Heat. We've already heard Brony will play. I have not seen

4:27.0

specifically very possible that I just missed it. I haven't seen specifically that Eric Dixon will play.

4:32.1

Again, this game from yesterday against the Warriors was the first night of a back-to-back.
