Good morning in the news this morning.

The longtime voice of the Philadelphia 76ers is calling it a career after 27 years

and more than 2,100 games as the voice of the team. Mark Zoomoff of NBC Sports Philadelphia

wrote in a post on the NBC Sports Philadelphia.com that he decided to retire after more than 30

years with the team. Now, after 39 years of covering 76ers basketball, first as the

halftime host and the last 27 years as the television voice, it's time for me to step

away, Zumov wrote. Zoomov says he hopes to spend the next phase of his life doing things he

previously did not have time to do. A Philadelphia native and Temple University alumnus, Zoomoff joined Prism

in 1982 and served as the in-studio host for pregame, halftime, and postgame shows. He was named

the play-by-play announcer on August 17, 1994, and went on to win the Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award for

Best Sports Play-by-Play Playbroadcaster 19 times.

Zoomoff received the 2018 Bill Campbell Award from the Philadelphia Sports Writers Association

and was named twice the Pennsylvania Sportscaster of the year by the National Sports Media

Association in 2018 and 19.

Mark has always stepped up and we've asked him any time to do anything. It comes out of the camp out for hunger. And, of course, does the play-by-play and the Papa Shot Challenge is just the nicest guy and he will be missed big time. He's at the top of his game. I mean, he's really as good as he's ever been. I was a little shocked. Yeah, you know, and... Obviously, it's obviously his prerogative to do so, and it's perhaps selfish on our side because he's so good at what he does that we want him around. But if he's able to pursue things he's interested in outside of this current realm, then good for him. He was saying that he wants to... I was reading his release. He wants to learn how to play an instrument. Yeah. He wants to learn a foreign language. And he wants to get more involved in the charity stuff that he had been a part of. It's all very nice. Yeah. You know, and he's such a nice guy, too. Like, I remember when I first started working for the Sixers, like, he was one of the first people to kind of like welcome me and and make it like you know warm and

just so it was it was really nice to to see him every day when I would go in and um I think I bet that

he's going to be missed you know I mean you say that about everybody who's leaving but uh you know

in their inner circle there not just out you know to to the public broadcasting, but he'll certainly be missed.
