Philadelphia police are investigating after a three-year-old was shot in Grey's Ferry neighborhood on Sunday.

The incident happened after 5 p.m. police say a 23-year-old woman was walking down the 1,500 block of Taney Street, carrying her 3-year-old son when she heard two to three shots fired in the area.

When the woman told police that she saw two men dressed in dark clothing running from the scene.

When the mother looked down at her son, police say she realized he had been struck in the cheek by gunfire.

Then a woman driving in the area spotted the mother and son and drove them to the nearest fire station on Greys Ferry Avenue. She stayed with the two wildfire fighters ran to help. The child was transported to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and is in stable condition. There have been no

reports of arrests made and no weapons were recovered. Officials say the woman's vehicle that was

used to transport the mother and child is being held at the scene.

Eve Shan police say a plot to kill two of their own unfolded early Sunday morning in what began as a routine traffic stop.

A pursuit ensued when officers tried to pull over a speeding car on Taunton Lake Road

at about 1 a.m. Sunday was quickly called off due to the risk after police say they recognized the vehicle from several recent contacts.

An arrest warrant was then issued for the driver identified as Mark Ferrello.

When police arrived to serve the warrant at his home, officials say Ferriello attempted to flee nearly striking two officers with his vehicle.

After purposely hitting a patrol vehicle with K-9 Tango inside,

the suspect drove directly towards two officers, police said.
