In the news this morning, firefighters across the region have not only had to deal with intense flames, but also the bitter cold while battling fires the past few days. Most recently, a fire broke out in an apartment building in Germantown last night and left residents out in the frigid cold. The trees surrounding the building looked like icicles and cars parked on the street were covered in a block of ice after firefighters doused the building with water to put out the flames. The fire started at 1130 last night along the

5,700 block of Morris Street in the 6th floor apartment building. Arriving crews saw flames

shooting from the third-story unit. Residents reported hearing the fire alarm and many self-evacuated.

Three people were taken to Einstein Medical Center with

unspecified injuries and some residents were left outside in the colds because of the freezing

temperatures. The office of emergency management was immediately called into assist and a septa bus

had been provided for residents to stay warm as they looked for places to stay.

You see all the cars down the street caked in ice from the hoses.

All that moisture goes out into the air and then lands on the cars and then just froze

solid. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the tree fall over because it was weighted down

with ice? I heard that reported as well. So there's been, like, a number of locations. Also,

in the 300 block of North Front Street over the weekend,

there was a fire. And same thing. Crews were out there, uh, you know, tending to the fire and it encased the entire block in ice. And then they had to go back out, uh, because there was some sort of flare up on Sunday. So more water added to it. And it all just completely froze over. I can't freaking imagine.
