And Brian is wonderful to be here with you today, as we do what we do every day.

Gather, gather together for a little bit, check in with each other,

take another step forward on our journey through the Bible.

We're in 2nd Samuel right now, that's no surprise.

We are traveling along the life and times of King David.

David has done some pretty atrocious, really truly

humanly unthinkable betrayal and murder.

His family isn't going to be the same.

He's not going to be the same.

And we're going to start to see how that takes shape today.

2nd Samuel chapter 13.

Now David's son Absalom had a beautiful sister named Tamar, and Amnon, her half-brother, fell desperately in love with her.

Amnon became so obsessed with Tamar that he became ill.

She was a virgin, and Amnon thought that he could never have her.

But Amnon had a very crafty friend, his cousin Jonah Dab.

He was the son of David's brother Shimia.

One day, Jonah Dab said to Amnon, what's the trouble?

Why should the son of a king look so dejected morning after morning?

So Amnon told him, I am in so dejected morning after morning.

So Amnon told him, I am in love with Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister.

Well, John Adab said, I'll tell you what to do.
