Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible.

I am Brian.

It is wonderful to be here with you today.

It is joy and with a grateful heart, we gather, I'm here, you're here, and we get to do another day together, another step forward together.

As we're navigating this voyage through the scriptures this year, and we're working our way through the book of First Samuel.

And we're learning about the first king of Israel, King Saul,

which forces us to learn a lot about ourselves,

which we're doing.

We've also met David.

And we've been hearing David's artistry,

his songs, his poems, his lyrics in the book of Psalms all year,

but we've gotten to meet him now.

And today, we'll find out how he went from obscure shepherd boy to international celebrity overnight.

First Samuel,

chapter 17, verse 1 through 18, verse 4.

Now, the Philistines gathered their troops for battle. They gathered at Soko, which belongs to Judah,

and they camp between Soko and Azica at Ephesdomim.

Saul and the men of Israel also gathered together and camped in the Valley of Yila.

They lined up in battle formation opposite the Philistines.

The Philistines took up a position in front of the mountain on one side of the valley, and the Israelites stationed themselves in front of the mountain on the other side of the valley.

A challenger who represented the Philistines came out from the camp of the Philistines.
