Hello, my friends. Welcome back. I'm Jared Halverson. This is Unshaken. I hope you've had a wonderful week and are ready to dive into Scripture.

Today we are doing section 27 and 28. These two revelations in some ways have nothing to do with each other. And yet I'm so grateful that they are

tagged together in this week's come follow me because it gives us a chance for me to do what I love doing,

which is proving some contraries. Now the great thing about proving contraries is it establishes

a Goldilocks zone, right? The problems come when we take something good to an extreme and

then that virtue flips over into a vice. So you need some opposite good to kind of anchor things

and keep them in check.

27 and 28 are an amazing example of establishing some parameters, a Goldilocks zone of sorts,

when it comes to the principle of revelation.

Now we've already seen a lot of revelations about revelation.

Six and eight and nine were a handful

of them.

But what's interesting about the doctrine and covenants, and you can see this at the very

beginning and the introduction that says that many of the revelations in the doctrine

covenants came as answers to specific questions.

Real people had real questions about real circumstances, and they asked God the the question and here came the answer through the prophet Joseph.

And yet section 27 is not that kind of revelation.

27 there was no question. Joseph didn't know he should have been asking one.

And yet as he's going, a revelation comes unexpected, unsolicited, he wasn't asking for one. And I wonder sometimes,

should we be asking for more revelation? Should we be more open to the kinds of things that God wants

to give us through an open heaven? And so are we in the too cold side of things, perhaps, when it comes to

revelation, unaware that God really wants to weigh in on certain issues? Well, if that's 27, 28's the
