The United Auto Workers just won a historic union contract.

In an overwhelming 96% vote, over 3,000 workers at a Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee, ratified

a deal that gives them immediate wage increases of 5%, guaranteed cost-of-living adjustments to

match inflation, and further pay hikes down the track in 2027 through 2030. More importantly, it is the first time any major auto plant in the South has been unionized,

breaking one of the labor movement's biggest historic barriers.

UAW President Sean Fane has a hard left challenger.

Despite the union's gains, Fane has been under fire recently,

especially after a federal investigation revealed allegations of misconduct in his dealings

with other union officials. He's accused of telling people he'd cut the fucking throats of anyone

who messed with his people, among other things.

Now a Mack truck worker named Will Lehman is running to lead the union on a more explicitly socialist platform

that promises class struggle, not class collaboration. This will be one to watch.
