Welcome back.

We are reading through the Gospels this school year,

and we are on day 98 of this journey.

We are close to wrapping up the Gospel of Mark. Today we are reading chapter 15 verses 33 through 47 and this will include the account of Jesus' death. Now I'm reading from

the new American translation of the Bible. I encourage you to follow along or take notes. But before we dive in, please join me in prayer.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, amen.

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.

Send forth your spirit and they shall be created. And you

will renew the face of the earth. Amen. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

amen. A reading from the Holy Gospel of Mark chapter 15, verses 33 through 47.

At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon.

And at three o'clock, Jesus cried out in a loud voice.

Eloy, Eloy, Lama Sabatani, which is translated,

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?

Some of the bystanders who heard it said, look, he is calling Elijah.

One of them ran, soaked a sponge with wine, put it on a reed, and gave it to him to drink, saying,

Wait, let us see if Elijah comes to take him down.

Jesus gave a loud cry and breathed his last.
