Hey there, welcome back to the Catholic Spouts podcast where we are reading through the Gospels this school year.

Today is day 81 of this journey.

We are in the Gospel of Mark.

And today we will be reading from chapter 10

verses 1 through 16, where we will hear Jesus teach about marriage and then bless the children

and see why these two things are connected. Now, I am reading from the new American

translation of the Bible. I encourage you to follow along, take notes, and of course, enter into this experience with prayer, because God's word is alive and active.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, amen.

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful, and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your spirit, and they shall be created, and you will renew the face of the earth. Amen. In the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, amen.

A reading from the gospel according to Matthew chapter 10 verses 1 through 16.

He set out from there and went into the district of Judah across the Jordan.

Again, crowds gathered around him,

and as was his custom, he again taught them. The Pharisees approached and asked,

is it lawful for a husband to divorce his wife? They were testing him. He said to them in reply, What did Moses command you?

They replied, Moses permitted him to write a bill of divorce and dismiss her.

But Jesus told them, because of the hardness of your hearts, he wrote you this commandment.

But from the beginning of creation, God made them male and female.

For this reason, a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife,

and the two shall become one flesh. So they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore,
