We are reading through the Gospels this school year.

We are on day 48 and reading Matthews Gospel,

chapter 27, verses 1 through 32 today. We're going to hear Jesus standing before Pilate and sentenced to death. I'm reading from the New American Translation

of the Bible, and let's remember that although we know this story, God's Holy Word is alive and

active. He has a message

for us today. So let's open our hearts to receive it. In the name of the Father and of the Son,

and of the Holy Spirit, amen. Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful, and kindle

in them the fire of your love. send forth your spirit and they shall be created

and you shall renew the face of the earth amen in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit amen

a reading from the holy gospel according to to Matthew, chapter 27, verses 1 through 32.

When it was mourning, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus

to put him to death. They bound him, led him away, and handed him over to Pilate the governor.

Then Judas, his betrayer,

seeing that Jesus had been condemned, deeply regretted what he had done. He returned the 30 pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, saying, I have sinned in betraying innocent blood.

They said, what is that to us?

Look to it yourself.

Flinging the money into the temple, he departed and went off and hanged himself.

The chief priest gathered up the money, but said,
