Welcome back to the Catholic Sprouts podcast, where we are reading the Gospels this school year.

We are on day 47 of this journey through the gospel of Matthew.

Today we are reading chapter 26 verses 57 through 75.

And in this section, we will hear Jesus' trial before the Sanhedron.

I'm reading from the New American Translation of the Bible, and remember my friends that although you are probably familiar with this story, God's Holy Word is alive and active, so let's pray

that our hearts can be open to receiving his message. In the name of the Father and of the Son,

and of the Holy Spirit, amen.

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.

Send forth your spirit, and they shall be created, and you will renew the face of the earth.

Amen.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew, chapter 26, verses 57 through 75.

Those who had arrested Jesus led him away to Caiaphas, the high priest, where the

scribes and the elders were assembled. Peter was following him at a distance as far as the high

priest's courtyard, and going inside, he sat down with the servants to see the outcome.

The chief priests and the entire Sanhedron kept trying to obtain false testimony against

Jesus in order to put him to death, but they found none, though many false witnesses

came forward.
