Welcome back to the Catholic Sprouts podcast as we work our way through the Gospels this school year.

Today is day 25 of this journey as we continue to read from the Gospel of Matthew. We are beginning the 13th chapter today and we'll be reading verses 1 through 23. Today we are beginning

to hear the parables of Jesus and we'll be hearing the parable of the sower.

I'm reading from the New American translation of the Bible.

Let's pray through the Holy Spirit that God can open our hearts to receive his message

today. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, amen. Come, Holy Spirit,

fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.

Send forth your spirit and they shall be created and you will renew the face of the earth.

Amen.

A reading from the Gospel according to Matthew, chapter 13, verses 1 through 23.

The parable of the sower. On that day, Jesus went out of the house and sat down by the sea.

Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat down, and the whole crowd stood along the shore, and he spoke to them at length in parables, saying,

A sower went out to sow, and as he sowed, some seed fell on the path, and the birds came and ate it up.

Some fell on rocky ground, where it had little soil.

It sprung up at once because the soil was not deep.
