Welcome back to our reading of the Gospels this school year.

We are on day 173 of this journey.

We are in the Gospel of John, and today we are reading chapter 8, verses 31 through 59. And in here, we will hear Jesus talk about his relations with Abraham, how he predates

even Abraham. Now, I'm reading once again from the new American translation of the Bible,

but before we dive in, let's pray. In the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,

amen. Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.

Send forth your spirit, and they shall be created.

And you will renew the face of the earth. Amen.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John, chapter 8, verses 31 through 59.

Jesus then said to those Jews who believes in him,

If you remain in my word, you will truly be my disciples, and you will know the truth,

and the truth will set you free.

They answered him, we are descendants of Abraham and have

never been enslaved to anyone. How can you say you will become free? Jesus said to them,

Amen, amen, I say to you. Everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin. A slave does not remain in a household forever, but a son

remains. So if a son frees you, you will truly be free. I know that you are a descendants of

Abraham, but you are trying to kill me because my word has no room among you.
