Yesterday, we started the Gospel of John.

talk about when St. John wrote this gospel, because it's important for us to understand that as we start to read it. But before we

So yesterday we talked about how St. John the Evangelist was one of the 12 apostles.

His brother's name was James. His father's name was Zebedee. Now, another person that knew St. John,

the evangelist, when he was alive, is a man that we know as St. Ignatius of Antioch.

Now, St. Ignatius of Antioch was a bishop in the early church. And I'm talking really early,

like before the year 100. And so just to place yourself in time, remember that we think, we know

Jesus was born around the year zero AD. He died around the year 33 AD. And so Ignatius of Antioch

was living. He might have been a little boy at the time of Jesus's

death, but he certainly knew St. John the Evangelist. In fact, according to tradition, we believe that

St. Ignatius of Antioch belonged to the community that St. John the evangelist formed. And in that community, he, of course,
