And today we are reading chapter 16 versus 19 through 31,

where we will hear the parable of the rich man and Lazarus. As usual, I am reading from the

New American translation of the Bible, but before we begin, let's pray. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, amen.

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.

Send forth your spirit and they shall be created and you will renew the face of the earth.

and of the Holy Spirit, amen. A reading from the Holy Gospel of Luke, chapter 16 versus 19 through 31.

There was a rich man who dressed in purple garments and fine linen and dined sumptuously each day.

And lying at his door was a poor man named Lazarus covered in sores, who would gladly have eaten his fill of the scraps that fell from the rich man's table.

Dogs even used to come and lick his sores.

When the poor man died, he was carried away by

angels to the bosom of Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried. And from the netherworld,

where he was in torment, he raised his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side.
