Today is day 103 of our gospel in a school year journey.

We're taking this week to become familiar with Luke and his gospel before we start reading it in a few days. Today we're going to talk about the people that Luke wrote

his gospel for, for us, but there's always a specific audience in mind when you're writing something.

Before we dive into that, though, please join me in

prayer. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, amen. Come, Holy Spirit,

fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your

spirit and they shall be created and you will renew the face of

the earth. Amen. So who did Luke write his gospel for? Well, it's interesting because he actually

tells us at the very beginning of this, at the beginning of his gospel, he has a little prologue

and he addresses it to

theophilus, theophilus, there we go. Now, we don't know who this is, right? Maybe it's a term of

endearment for the Christian community. Most likely, however, though, because of the way he is given a title, it was probably

a Roman official, who maybe was wealthy or powerful, who had converted to Christianity, and this

person was financing the publication of Luke's writing. Now, of course, there was no printing

press at this time. Paper and ink

were expensive and it was even more expensive to have people hand write down, you know, copy

something. So there was expenses and that there seems to have been, you know, a patron who allowed Luke to sit and write this gospel
