| 0:00.0 | You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith. |
| 0:39.8 | Hey there, Sprouse, today is Wednesday, March 23rd, 2022. Today is also the feast day of a Peruvian bishop, St. Turavis of Peru. He's a really interesting guy. He actually lived in Spain. He was not a priest, but he was very faithful and very articulate about the faith. He was picked to go and be ordained |
| 0:47.0 | and become a bishop of Peru, much of Peru, when it was still a colony of Spain. So he went, he was obedient. But what's really |
| 0:56.6 | interesting is that at the time that he was a bishop there, this was very rough, rough country. |
| 1:04.0 | He was the bishop of this huge area over 800 miles. It included a huge mountain range. |
| 1:10.4 | And he made it his life's work. It took him over 10 years |
| 1:13.2 | to go and visit every parish in his diocese. He would travel for days and walk. He would oftentimes |
| 1:21.2 | stay at parishes where they couldn't offer him any food or even a bed. And yet he went and he was faithful. And he dealt with all sorts of |
| 1:30.4 | corruption that was taking place in Peru. A lot of the Spanish settlers were treating the natives |
| 1:36.4 | terribly. But he went and dealt with that. He was a very holy man, said mass every single day, |
| 1:42.6 | even if he was camped out on a cliff beside a mountain. |
| 1:46.7 | And what's so beautiful is that during his time as bishop in Peru, he confirmed two |
| 1:53.2 | saints that I bet you have heard of. He was the bishop that confirmed both St. Martin |
| 1:58.3 | de Porres and St. Rose of Lima. So this is what happens, friends. |
| 2:03.9 | When we are faithful, when we do the hard work of becoming a saint, there's more saints that |
| 2:09.5 | kind of grow out of that. So let's remember that. Let's pray through the intercession of St. |
| 2:15.0 | Turibus of Peru that we too can do the hard work that God has set for us. |
| 2:20.7 | So sprouts this week we're talking about the sin of gluttony. We have already talked about how |
| 2:26.2 | gluttony is the overindulgence in food or just an over preoccupation with food in our bodies. |
| 2:32.5 | We talked about yesterday how we're made up of two parts, |
| 2:36.0 | our souls and our bodies, and we need to make sure that we're not just feeding our soul, |
| 2:41.0 | but we're feeding our bodies. Now, all through this series, we have been looking to the |
