You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith.

0:25.0

Greetings young Squire Sprouts. Today is the 26th day in the second month in the year of our Lord 2022.

0:30.8

My name is Sir Roland Paterlaught, and you're listening to Saturdays with Sir Roland on Catholic Sprouts, where every Saturday we discuss the art of dragon slain.

0:38.6

The last couple weeks we've been talking about the sacrament of baptism,

0:41.8

how it initiates us into the Order of Dragon Slayers and sets us out on our extraordinary mission to become saints.

0:47.6

Last week, we discussed the water, oil, and light used in baptism to give us grace and prepare us for battle against dragons.

0:55.8

Today, we're going to discuss the last element of matter used in baptism to give us grace and prepare us for battle against dragons. Today, we're going to discuss the last element of matter used in baptism, my favorite part of baptism, the sacred chrism.

1:02.9

The chrism is a sweet smelling oil used to anoint our foreheads. And just like Jesus was a

1:08.3

priest, prophet, and king, the anointing signifies those three things for us as well.

1:13.6

The catechism says we become part of the common priesthood because priests offer sacrifice and we're called to sacrifice our life for others.

1:23.6

We're prophets because we're called to hear the word of God and share that good news with the whole world.

1:29.0

And we're kings or queens, we're royalty because we're adopted into the royal family of God.

1:34.7

But remember, the role of Christian royalty is not to sit in fancy chairs, getting served by others while we drink peanut coladas, no no.

1:42.8

Christian royalty is called to lead others and to battle

1:46.0

against dragons and to serve the orphans and widows and those who need our help. We're called to be

1:51.1

disciples of Jesus. Now my favorite part of the chrism is the amazing smell. The smell of the sacred

1:58.2

chrism helps us to put on the aroma of Christ so we can fulfill those

2:02.1

baptismal duties. The smell makes dragons gag, which I think is hilarious. Now there's something

2:08.1

very nostalgic about the smell of chrism that helps us remember who we are. Did you know that the

2:13.8

sense of smell is closely tied to memory? because the olfactory nerve in your brain

2:18.9

that helps you smell things runs right past the part of your brain tied to memory. That's why when I

2:24.8

smell woodburning, it reminds me of my childhood home with the woodburning fireplace that I love so much.
