Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Friday, December 17th, 2021. This week on the Catholic Spouts podcast, we have been talking about beauty, why our church cherries beauty, encourages beauty,

and just really looks for opportunities to expose us to the beautiful, because that is being exposed to God.

Now, today we are going to tackle an important question that maybe you have already been talking about with your family or your classroom.

And this question is, what is beautiful and what is not?

Now, especially when it comes to art and music, there are very different opinions about this,

right? Someone might like one type of music and another person hates it. Someone might look at a

painting and love it and someone else might really dislike it. Now, I want you to realize that there

is room for opinions here. God gave us each a unique personality and perspective. In fact, the way in which God loves us in this unique and unrepeatable way is shown in how different we are, in how we see the world slightly differently. So that's fine to have different opinions. But when we talk about things that are truly beautiful,

it goes beyond whether I like it or I don't like it. Now, there are things that we can

encounter, that I can stand side by side with the person that is totally different from me.

And we can both say, yes,

that is beautiful. The standard for this, I believe, is a sunset. You can truly stand next to

anyone and see a spectacular sunset and both agree, yes, this is beautiful. And it reminds me of

something bigger. It's almost like I can glimpse for that

second as I'm looking at that sunset that there's something beyond this world, that there's

some sort of loving creator that just likes to spoil me, that likes to give me great little surprises, that likes to make things

beautiful that don't need to be beautiful. We can all look at a sunset and feel the same way.

Now, the same can be true with certain types of music, especially beautiful music with instruments that we might hear at church during the

Christmas season. Maybe one person likes one type of music, another person likes a different

type of music, but something that is very beautiful, intricate that we hear at church,
