Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Thursday, December 16th, 2021. Today is also the feast day of a princess from Burgundy, who lived in the 900s. Her name was St. Adelaide.

She has a very interesting history full of drama and murder, but through it all, she was devoted above all to Jesus Christ.

Now, this week on the Catholic Spouts podcast, we are talking about why our church cherishes beauty so much,

0:57.1

promotes it, encourages us to go and take in as much beauty in art or nature as possible,

1:04.9

and also even encourages you to create beautiful things for the glory of God.

1:09.7

Of course, the reason for this is because God is a source

1:12.5

of all beauty. And when we encounter something beautiful, it lifts our hearts and our minds to God.

1:22.4

Now, before we dive into our topic today, I just want to acknowledge that maybe something that you're thinking about.

1:29.5

And this is that when you go to church, perhaps you don't think that the church you attend or

and what doesn't. So imagine with me, travel with me in your mind to a spectacular cathedral.

2:14.1

Maybe it's a cathedral you've been to. Maybe it's something you've seen a picture of or heard of,

2:20.0

but a super spectacular cathedral. Something with very high ceilings, huge archways, giant stained glass

2:31.0

windows that are several stories high, full of vibrant colors, a cathedral that is

2:38.2

lined with intricate statues depicting a variety of saints, a cathedral that has a beautiful

2:46.9

marble floor where each piece has been intricately cut and placed to create amazing designs.

2:56.2

So come into this space, just take it in.

3:00.2

And I want you to think about something.

3:02.9

Why, oh why, did whoever built this church, whatever group of people it was, why did they spend so much time and money to create a worship space like this?

3:17.0

We all know that in order to say mass, you don't necessarily need a cathedral.
