Today is Wednesday, December 15th, 2021.

This week on the Catholic Sprout's podcast, we are talking about why our church is beautiful

and why our church goes to stray such lengths to lift up beauty, to protect beauty,

and to cherish it. Now yesterday we talked about the big point that really explains everything,

and this is that God is the source of all beauty, that seeing something like a beautiful sunset or experiencing

a beautiful piece of music allows us access to God in just a really beautiful way. And it also

lifts our hearts and our minds to God. Now, today we're going to go back and fill in a little bit of the pieces here because I just

want to make sure that we don't think about this in the wrong way.

Now, first of all, let's talk about art.

And when we talk about art, we talk about a lot of things, right?

Maybe you're thinking about painting, but art also includes things

like sculpture or writing poetry or putting together a piece of music or even putting together

a beautiful dance. So all of those things are expressions of art. Now, art is important because through art, oftentimes beautiful things are created.

And this beauty points us to the beauty of God.

But what I want you to remember, and sometimes the world can be pretty confusing about this,

is that the art itself is not what's important.

In some artistic circles, there's an expression that we create art for art itself,

that somehow art is the most important thing, whether it's taking beautiful

pictures or painting a picture, that that's the most important thing. But that's not true.

Remember, all of our creative abilities, even our ability to identify beauty and interact with that,

that is something that God gave us.
