| 0:00.0 | You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith. |
| 0:30.8 | Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Wednesday, October 13th, 2021. Now this week we are looking at why |
| 0:36.9 | Catholicism is good. Last week, we proved that it is true. This week, we are starting our look at why it is good. Why it not only |
| 0:38.8 | makes us the best versions of ourselves, but it transforms our world into a better place. |
| 0:44.8 | Yesterday we started looking at why Catholicism throughout the century has been the source of |
| 0:50.7 | scientific discovery. Now I know I explained to you why, but today I'm going to prove |
| 0:57.7 | to you that in fact this happened, because it might be a common misunderstanding in our world |
| 1:03.2 | that religion, specifically Christianity, is in conflict with science. And as we look at all these |
| 1:09.3 | great scientific discoverers along the centuries, |
| 1:13.8 | we might not realize that so many of them were Catholic and so, so many of them were actually |
| 1:21.5 | Catholic priests. So let's just look at some all-stars that you probably heard of. |

| 1:37.7 | We credit all sorts of mathematical discoveries to him, but what you might not know about him is that he was also a Catholic |
| 1:47.0 | theologian, that he dedicated huge parts of his life to not only worshiping and knowing God, |
| 1:54.4 | but to writing beautiful theology. So Blaise Pascal, I'm sure you'll hear about him in math. He not only loved math, |
| 2:04.4 | he loved the Catholic faith. The next one, Louis Pasteur. Now, he is a very important man. |
| 2:10.8 | Once again, French, he was a chemist, and we call him the father of vaccines. He discovered that we can create certain types of medicines |
| 2:20.9 | that protect us from getting diseases. And vaccines have been used throughout the century |
| 2:28.3 | after he discovered them to protect people from things like polio or even today the coronavirus. It is something that |
| 2:38.0 | he discovered. And guess what? He not only loved chemistry. He was a devout and faithful Catholic. |
| 2:46.5 | Now both of those men were lay people, meaning they were not religious, but I have a huge list of very important scientists that were religious, many of them priests. |
| 3:00.1 | First of all, Roger Bacon. He was a Franciscan friar, and he developed the scientific method. Do you remember this? Have you learned |
