You're listening to Catholic Sprouse, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith.

0:38.3

Hey there, Sprouse. Today is Tuesday, June 1st, 2021. All week in preparation for the feast of the most holy body and blood of Jesus, which we will celebrate on Sunday, we are talking about Eucharistic miracles.

0:42.1

Chris, these Eucharistic miracles come in lots of different forms.

0:50.9

Yesterday, we heard the story of St. Clair, holding up the Eucharist and stopping a bloodthirsty army bent on destroying her entire city. We also heard a story from Colombia and a story

0:58.1

from France where the consecrated host turned back a tidal wave or parted a river that had flooded a city.

1:05.9

Today we're going to talk about fire. There are many stories, in fact, many that we probably haven't heard, where the

1:12.8

Eucharistic host consecrated, was able to miraculously put out fires or was preserved from fires.

1:22.4

So the first story comes from the 1600s in France. Now, in a small village in France, suddenly a chapel caught on fire.

1:32.7

And at the time, most buildings were made of wood, and there was really no way to stop a fire

1:39.6

once it began to rage. So the entire chapel burnt to the ground. Everything was lost. However, when they

1:49.0

began to sort of comb through the rubble, they found something miraculous. There had been a chalice in the

1:57.2

tabernacle. Everything was burnt. They could see the chalice was completely melted.

2:03.5

But as they pulled apart the pieces, they found that the consecrated hosts inside were perfectly

2:10.3

preserved. They had not been touched by the flame miraculously. Now, the next story comes from Italy, also in the 1600s.

2:21.2

Now at this point, there was a city and the fire was just burning all through the city.

2:26.9

Again, at this time, most buildings were made of wood.

2:30.6

So one building caught on fire.

2:32.6

It was very close to the next and it would just go from house to house, and eventually an entire city would burn to the ground.

2:40.7

Now, seeing this happening, a priest went into a church, into the tabernacle, retrieved a consecrated host, put it into the monstrance, and led all of the faithful people through the city.

2:53.0

And as they approached this fire that was just burning through the town, suddenly the fire

2:58.9

began to fall back, to almost move away from them as they marched forward with the Eucharist.

3:07.0

Everyone there present declared it was a miracle, that it was the Eucharist. Everyone there present declared it was a miracle
