You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith.

0:30.4

Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Wednesday, June 2, 2021. All week, we are talking about Eucharistic miracles as we prepare for the feast of the most holy body and blood of Jesus Christ, which we

0:37.0

will celebrate on Sunday.

0:39.2

Now, remember, all of these stories, they do not, they aren't the reason why we believe

0:44.9

that Christ is present in the Eucharist. We believe that because of what Christ himself said

0:50.0

here on earth, what has been preserved in Holy Scripture, and handed down to us through the ages,

0:56.0

starting with Christ's followers. So that's why we believe. These Eucharistic miracles

1:01.8

1:08.8

is that a lot of times these Eucharistic miracles occurred at times

1:13.2

when people were struggling with belief. In fact, the most, probably the most famous Eucharistic

1:21.1

miracle occurred in Lanziato, Italy in the 8th century. So that would have been in the 700s. And so what happened

1:29.7

is that a priest was there saying mass, but in his heart, he had been struggling for a long time

1:36.5

to believe the teaching of transubstantiation. Now, you know, the teaching of transubstantiation is the belief that although bread and wine still

1:49.1

appear to all of our senses to be bread and wine, right?

1:53.2

Taste, sight, smell, everything.

1:57.1

It has been utterly changed.

2:00.5

Its substance has been changed. It is no longer ordinary bread and wine. It is instead Jesus Christ. Now, this is a difficult belief, and even priests can struggle with this belief. And that's what this priest was feeling as he said mass. Now, as he was saying the words

2:20.0

of consecration, as he was saying, this is my body, this is my blood, suddenly he witnessed the bread

2:29.3

and wine transform into real human flesh and blood.

2:35.0

He saw it.

2:37.0

Now after this, the blood coagulated.

2:40.0

As you know, blood kind of clots together.
