You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith.

0:23.6

Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Thursday, May 6th, 2021.

0:27.8

Now, all week, we have been talking about the objects we see at mass, but I might not fully understand.

0:34.7

So far, same with me, all the words that we've learned this week. We have talked

0:39.1

about the tabernacle, the chalice, the patent, the suborium, the picks, the finger bowl,

0:47.3

and the cruits. Quite a lot. So now we're going to talk about, we're talking about fabric today,

0:52.6

people. We're talking about the things that we lay over the altar, the pieces of fabric.

0:58.1

1:13.0

So that's why a table is so important.

1:16.8

Also, the altar reminds us of the sacrifices of the Old Testament, right?

1:23.0

1:28.8

ultimate sacrifice on the cross, the way you just memorialize, relive that sacrifice every

1:37.2

time we go to Mass. So there are two main pieces of fabric on an altar. The first one is just an altar cloth and this covers the entire altar.

1:49.7

It is beautiful. Remember, we really want to give God our best, give him the most beautiful that we can.

1:57.0

This is also, you know, the altar cloth is over the altar, and this is also why you probably have never noticed.

2:02.7

There's an altar stone in there.

2:05.7

So if you haven't yet, remember to ask your priest to see that.

2:10.3

But then usually at Mass, a priest will take out a smaller cloth.

2:15.7

Usually it's folded and he will unfold it, set it right in the center

2:20.7

of the altar, and that is where he will place the chalice, the patent. It's where the hosts will be.
