| 0:34.3 | All week, we have been talking about the common objects that we see at church and might not know a whole lot about. |
| 0:41.0 | Yesterday, we talked about the chalice, the Patton, and the suborium, all objects, special objects set aside to contain Jesus Christ when he has become bread and wine |
| 0:48.7 | for us. We also talked about the tabernacle on Monday. Today we're going to talk about three other objects that have to do with the Eucharist. |
| 0:58.3 | So the first one is something called a finger bowl. Now, if you can think through what happens, what the priest does, you might know when this is used. |
| 1:08.6 | But there is a point in the consecration where the priest pauses. |
| 1:12.4 | Usually a server will come up to him with a little bowl and pour water over his hands and |
| 1:17.5 | he washes his hands. Now, there's a lot we could say about this, but it is sort of a symbolic |
| 1:24.0 | gesture. We know he's not there scrubbing his hands. It's not to get rid of germs. |
| 1:29.0 | Most priests today use hand sanitizer to do that. |
| 1:32.9 | But he is washing away his own sinfulness. |
| 1:37.2 | Because if you don't know, priests are human beings as well. |
| 1:41.9 | Priests go to the sacrament of reconciliation and they have their own struggles and temptations |
| 1:47.2 | just like we do. |
| 1:48.8 | But so that they can really, you know, say the words of Jesus Christ, they first pray and ask |
| 1:55.8 | that their own sins are washed away and that God can use them more perfectly. |
| 2:01.4 | Now, the next object is called a cruet. |
| 2:05.9 | Cruet. |
| 2:06.9 | Now, these are oftentimes glass, a little container, a little, kind of a tiny little pitcher, |
| 2:13.8 | and inside of one is wine, inside of another is water. |
