| 0:00.0 | You're listening to Catholic Sprouse, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith. |
| 0:30.9 | Hey there, Sprousees. Today is November 4th, 2020. It is also the feast day of St. Charles Barameo. |
| 0:46.8 | Now, this week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, we are talking about the proclamation that Jesus made when he first started preaching, and that is that the kingdom of God is at hand, repent, and believe in the gospel. |
| 0:59.8 | Yesterday we talked about how the kingdom of God means that God is here now on earth, doing his work, letting his power be shown, and allowing the truth to be proclaimed. |
| 1:15.9 | So, Jesus, he ushers in the kingdom of God with his public ministry by allowing the very power of God to show forth in his mighty deeds. But as you might recall from the gospel, Jesus wasn't always able to work miracles. Now, why wasn't he able to work |
| 1:24.6 | miracles at every single town that he was in? Well, let's look at two different towns. |
| 1:30.8 | So at the very beginning of his ministry, Jesus is back in his hometown in Nazareth. |
| 1:36.5 | He's back at the synagogue that he's been to many times as a child. |
| 1:40.7 | And it was the right of any Jewish man in the synagogue to get up and to be the |
| 1:45.7 | lector at the Sabbath service. So Jesus gets up. He grabs a scroll for the prophet Isaiah, |
| 1:52.5 | and he reads the passage. He reads a passage about miracles being done, about God's present |
| 2:00.0 | being shown through a person. |
| 2:02.9 | And he says to them that this is now fulfilled in your hearing. |
| 2:10.1 | Now, you can imagine if you stood up in front of people that you had grown up with that had |
| 2:14.6 | known your whole life and you proclaimed to be something amazing, |
| 2:18.7 | they would say, come on, we know you, |
| 2:22.5 | you're just Joseph's son, you're no one super important. |
| 2:27.1 | They didn't believe, they had no faith. |
| 2:31.5 | And therefore, Jesus wasn't able to work any miracles there, not even one. So we left. |
| 2:40.4 | Now shortly after this, Jesus comes to a different town. This town is called Copernum. |
| 2:44.8 | This is a small fishing village. It's also sort of a crossroads, a trading route. So there's |
| 2:50.1 | lots of different people coming through Copernum. |
