Today is Thursday, November 11, 2020.

Now, this week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, we have been talking about the proclamation that Jesus made at the beginning of his public ministry.

Repent and believe in the gospel, the kingdom of God is at hand. We've already talked about how the kingdom of God is simply God's work, God's power,

God's word coming through to this world, healing us, changing us here.

How he did that through Jesus Christ and continues to do that through his faithful here and now.

Now, let's talk about something first.

Now, for the kingdom of God to be established, there had to be a different kingdom established before this.

So let's talk about the real person that Jesus is battling and overthrowing.

Now, the Jews thought that the Messiah would come and gather an army and fight their enemy.

And they thought that enemy was maybe Rome or a different pagan country that had invaded or conquered them.

But Jesus doesn't do that.

He doesn't gather an army.

When he stands before the Romans, he doesn't try to fight them. His eyes are on a much bigger

and more important enemy. And that enemy is Satan. Jesus, his very first thing he does after he's

baptized is he goes and does personal battle with Satan in the desert. Satan tries to tempt him. Jesus rejects his temptation. He is obedient to God and he defeats Satan personally. Now after that, he goes out to battle Satan in the world. Satan has conquered so many people's hearts. He is the king of their hearts.

And Jesus is here to say, I am the new king. The kingdom of God is here. And we will overthrow the strongholds

of Satan. Now let's think for a second, way back to the Garden of Eden, when original sin entered the

world.

Original sin changed everything.

In the garden, Adam and Eve were perfectly happy.
