Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Tuesday, November 3, 2020. It is also the feast day of one of my favorite saints, St. Martin de Porres. Now, St. Martin de Porras lived in South America in the

0:35.2

1600s. His mother was a freed slave, and his father was from Spain, so he was a mixed race.

0:42.9

And at the time when he lived, people were very racist and they were very mean and terrible

0:48.5

to him.

0:49.1

And he lived a very poor life.

0:51.4

However, St. Martin de Poros loved God, and he had a remarkable way of loving

through him. St. Martin de Porras desired to be a monk, but at the time, because of the color of

his skin, he was allowed only to be a servant to the monks. But he embraced this role and he did it joyfully,

1:46.8

doing oftentimes the dirtiest and lowest jobs.

1:50.9

But he loved everyone,

1:52.7

including the beggars he met in the streets

1:54.9

and even the rats that he found in the cellar at the monastery.

1:59.3

He treated every living being with dignity and love.

Eventually, the monks recognized the great, great holiness of St. Martin de Porras,

2:10.2

and he was allowed to take full vows as a monk in this monastery.

2:15.7

St. Martin de Porras continued to be a wonder worker. He did all of his

2:21.4

miracles for other people, however, never procured any for himself. And some of his miracles included
