You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith.

Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Friday, August 21st, 2020. This week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, we have wrapped up our study of the Ten Commandments by talking about the 10th

0:34.7

commandment, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's possession.

0:39.3

Remember that this has so much more to do with the intentions of your heart and the plans

0:45.1

that you have for your life than it has to do with stealing.

0:49.1

We can want and lust after something but never have it and still be breaking this commandment.

0:56.0

So to really understand this, we have looked at some incredible saints who are celebrating

1:00.1

their feast days this week. We have looked at St. Joan of the Cross. We have looked at St. Louis

1:07.2

of Toulouse, St. John Udes, St. Bernard of Clairvaux, and today we are looking at a much

1:14.3

more modern saint, Pope St. Pius the 10th. Now, Pope St. Pius the 10th, it was born in 1835 and he died in

1914. So he died just over 100 years ago.

1:52.7

Thankfully, at this time in the church, reform had come, and they were truly picking the man that they felt could lead the church the best. At this time, they picked

2:04.1

Pope Pius the 10th, even though he was poor. And Pope Pius the 10th, he saw the value of being

2:12.9

poor. And even as he was Pope, he was sometimes embarrassed by the palace that the Pope lives in and all of the riches that the church has acquired over the years.

2:24.7

If you ever go to Rome and you see where the Pope lives, you'll see that it is a beautiful place and there are many beautiful paintings and things.

2:35.6

All of the things are there because people throughout the century have wished to make God's house, his holy church,

2:42.0

as beautiful as possible, to create the most incredible paintings of Jesus himself, Mary, and the

2:49.6

saints. And all of these things are still there.

2:52.3

They don't belong to the Pope, but the Pope does live in this very rich palace.
