This opens up all sorts of rather adult topics.

We will be treating these in a way that is appropriate for children,

Today is Monday, July 6th, 2020.

It is also the feast day of St. Maria Grety. This week on the Catholic

Sprouts podcast, we are talking about the Fifth Commandment. We have already done one through four,

and today we are number five. The Fifth Commandment is, You Shall Not Kill. Now, this commandment is you shall not kill.

Now, this commandment is a pretty obvious commandment, and I hope it is one that you skip right over when you were doing an examination of conscience before confession.

Killing is a very serious offense, and it is something that not only we as Christians,

as followers that the Ten Commandments acknowledge, but it is something that the government,

all governments, in fact, acknowledge as evil and a crime worth punishment.

What we are going to be talking about today is all of the little ways that murder has crept into our society, some ways that are even acceptable.

And we are also going to talk about how we in our ordinary lives where killing isn't a part of what we do, but how we can work to promote life.

Because remember, the opposite of ending a life or killing, the opposite of that is helping life thrive, treating life as sacred,

protecting life. So not only does this commandment forbid us from killing, but it commands us to treat life with more respect. So it's interesting that today, when we're starting to talk about the Fifth
