You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith.

0:28.9

Hey there, it's sprouts. Today is Friday, June 12th, 2020. This week on the Catholic Spouts podcast, we have had a fun time going a little bit deeper with the first commandment.

0:34.0

That commandment is, of course, I am the Lord, your God, and you shall have no other gods besides me.

0:40.6

We've talked about a whole bunch of things about how, of course, this commandment was given to Moses and the Israelites to help them break ties with all of those evil things they were surrounded by in Egypt, including the worship of idols. But from there we've

0:55.9

learned that there are lots of idols in our modern world. Sure, we might not be worshiping idols carved

1:03.7

out of stone of strange animals, but there are plenty of things that we place between us and God

1:10.5

that help us not to realize that he is God. And even more things that we place between us and God that help us not to realize that

1:12.3

he is God and even more things that we place above God that we put too much importance in,

1:18.4

like material objects. And finally, we learned that in any situation where we assume the power

1:25.2

that is only God's, we are also breaking this commandment in situations where we assume the power that is only God's, we are also breaking this commandment.

1:30.1

In situations where we think that we can save someone or that we can save ourselves,

1:35.8

we are denying who God is and pretending that we're something that we're not.

1:41.6

Now, today, instead of having another story, we are going to talk about some ways

1:45.4

that we can work to keep this commandment even better, things that we can avoid doing or things that we

1:53.4

can work to do more of. So first of all, let's talk about some things that we should never do.

1:59.9

The first thing is that we should never doubt God.

2:03.6

Now, if we acknowledge that God is God,

2:06.6

meaning he created all things, including me,

2:09.6

that he sent his son Jesus Christ to die for us on the cross,

2:13.6

if we know all of these things, then we should never doubt him. First of all, never doubt that he

2:19.9

can answer prayers, that he's bigger than any problem that we might be facing. But secondly, we should

2:25.8

never doubt in his goodness that God is willing to forgive the most terrible sin. He is happy to wash it
