Today is Wednesday, May 20th, 2020.

This week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, we are talking about Our Lady of Lords,

when Mary appeared to St. Bernadette in Lords, France.

We've already gotten to know Bernadette and her family who are very poor and Bernadette, who was super ill most of her life and even at 14, had yet

to receive her first communion because she had gone to school. Yesterday we talked about the very

first apparition, how Bernad had seen a bright light

shining from a small hole in the wall of a cave and how she saw a beautiful woman there

wearing a white dress with a blue sash and how together they prayed the rosary. Now, of course,

even though Bernad had asked her sister not to tell

anyone, as soon as they got home, her sister told her mother and father all about it. Her mother and

father were good Christian people, but they worried that Bernadette was making this up or she was

being tricked, so they forbid her from going back.

Bernadette was obedient to the wishes of her parents, and she agreed that she would not go back.

But yet, as the days passed, she felt pulled and called to go back to the grotto, to go back to

this place where she had seen this beautiful woman

appear. Now here's an important thing to remember, my friends, in this first time that Mary

appeared to Bernadette, she did not say, I am Mary the mother of Jesus. She didn't say that.

In fact, she just quietly prayed the rosary with Bernadette. And at this point,

Bernadette felt pretty sure that this was someone from heaven, but they weren't totally sure.

Mary hadn't identified herself. Still, Bernadette felt this call to go back and to see this beautiful
