You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith. Good morning sprouts. It's Father Kay with you. It's Wednesday of Holy Week. And we have another question from you. The question today is, why did Jesus pretend that he was weak and let those guys kill him? Why didn't he fight the soldiers

and the high priests? He would have won. Again, very good question. And I've often thought

in my own imagination when those mean Pharisees were taunting Jesus from the cross and saying,

oh, well, if you come down off of the cross, then we'll believe in you.

I always thought that would have been a nice time to jump off the cross and show them what's up.

But Jesus isn't me, and I'm not Jesus. And that's probably a good

thing for all of us because Jesus stayed on the cross, because Jesus's goal was the cross.

He wanted to show us his love as we talked about the last couple days.

And if he had come down off of the cross, he wouldn't have been able to show us that as well.

Could Jesus have beaten those guys up?

Could he have fought the soldiers? Well, at one point, remember, he said,

if I wanted to, I could call on a legion of angels to come to my defense, and they would come

and fight for me. And we can imagine St. Michael coming with his sword, flying in and chopping off all the heads

of the bad guys and bringing Jesus up into the sky and victory as he flew around in

the last victory march, and that all the people would

follow him and acclaim him as their king.

They probably wouldn't have.

Remember the parable that Jesus told on another occasion about the rich man and Lazarus? and the rich man died and he was in the fire,

he asked Abraham to send Lazarus to his brothers to tell them to repent.

And you know what Abraham said?

He said, even if somebody were to rise from the grave, your brothers would not repent.

So we see, even if Jesus had done something amazing, jumped off of the cross, sent all these
