You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for April 2, 2020. This week on the Catholic Sprouts

0:29.1

podcast, we have been looking at all sorts of saints, many of which you probably haven't

0:34.2

heard of, and seeing through each of them that we are called to get to work,

0:40.1

that we are each given work from God in the spiritual realm, work that will help others come to

0:47.2

Jesus, that will just help others around us and spread the good news of Jesus Christ,

0:53.4

and that we are called to do this work.

0:55.8

And we should avoid being lazy, especially when it comes to prayer, learning the faith, and doing

1:03.0

the work that God has given us. Now, today we're going to talk about a super important concept.

1:10.3

And that concept is this. The work that God gives you

1:15.1

might not seem like work, or it might not seem like what you expected God to give you.

1:24.2

Now here is a little story from one of my favorites, St. Therese. St. Teres once wrote and taught the novices

1:31.3

in the monastery where she was that we are all called to do the work of God, but you could easily

1:39.1

become holy through the work of picking flowers, that that might be the work that God gives you,

1:48.6

and that that work could be important enough in the eyes of God to bring you to heaven.

1:57.0

Now, doesn't that seem a little bit silly? I mean, you're not going to be saving lives by

2:03.3

picking flowers. You're not even out there telling others about Jesus. And yet St. Cherez, a doctor

2:09.5

of the church, meaning that the Pope has recognized that she had so much wisdom that we should

2:15.1

definitely learn from her, she said that you could get to heaven by simply

2:20.2

picking flowers for God. Now, what can we learn from this? Well, we can learn that the work we are

2:29.1

given by God, it doesn't matter what we are doing. That's not what matters. What matters is why we are doing it.

2:41.5

And we all know that there's a lot of different ways that we can do things. If your mom tells you to go to

2:47.4

your room and clean it, there's a lot of different ways that you can do that.
