Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Thursday, May 9th, 2019. This week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, we are talking about the divine mercy. First, we talked about what mercy is and how mercy is simply love when it encounters pain, sin, or suffering. Next, we talked about Saint Faustina, those saint that Jesus appeared to in visions

and revealed the divine mercy devotion.

Yesterday we started talking about the first two principles, the first two parts of the

divine mercy devotion, and that is the Divine Mercy Feastay, which we

celebrate on Divine Mercy Sunday, exactly a week after Easter. And we also talked about the

image that Jesus told Faustina to have painted of him, which we call the Divine Mercy. And if you

have yet to see a picture of it, I encourage you to find one

today. Today we are going to talk about the other three parts of this devotion, the novena,

the chaplet, and the hour. First of all, the novena. Now there are several different novenas

that we can pray. A novena. Now, there are several different novenas that we can pray.

A novena is simply a prayer that stretches over nine days. Oftentimes, these prayers can be said

for a specific intention, or we can say them with the help with the intercession of a specific

saint. When Jesus appeared to Faustina,

he told her about the novena that he wanted to offer to us so that we might grow in devotion

to the divine mercy. It also is said over nine days. In each of these days, we bring Jesus the

intention of a specific group of people.

For example, on the first day that you pray the novena, you pray for the intention of all

sinners. On the next day, you pray for all religious and priests and so on, and is it a beautiful

way to stretch out over nine days, a devotion to the divine

mercy? The next part of this devotion is the chaplet. Now, the chaplet is simply a prayer,

and it's a prayer that we say using rosary beads. Like the rosary itself, the chaplet is composed of a very few prayers, very few,
