You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith.

Hey there, Spouts. Today is Wednesday, May 8th, 2019. This week on the Catholic Spouts podcast,

0:25.9

we are talking about the divine mercy. Now, we have already talked about what mercy is,

0:32.9

and that it is simply love's second name, that any time we show mercy to someone that is suffering

0:39.5

in pain or trapped in sin, we are really showing mercy and not just loving them, but showing

0:45.8

mercy. We are also reminded that God, who is love, every time he comes and loves us in our sin and suffering, it is an act of mercy.

0:58.5

Yesterday we talked about St. Faustina, the saint who God appeared to envisions with the

1:04.7

message of the divine mercy. We talked about what a mystic is, and we reminded ourselves that

1:10.8

God revealed absolutely everything

1:12.9

to us 2,000 years ago, but he chooses sometimes to appear to saints in visions so that we

1:19.6

might be reminded of his teachings, or people might be called to a deeper conversion.

1:25.6

Now, today we are going to start talking about the actual details of the

1:29.5

divine mercy. When we talk about the divine mercy, there are five different ways that we celebrate

1:36.2

or acknowledge this devotion. There is a feast day. There is an image of the divine mercy.

1:44.0

There is a novena, which is a prayer that we say over nine

1:47.8

days. There is a chaplet, which is a prayer said with rosary beads. And finally, there is an hour of mercy.

1:56.1

We're going to be talking about the first two, the feast day in the image today. So first of all, the feast

2:02.5

day. Now, I hope that you recently celebrated the Divine Mercy Sunday, which is the Sunday

2:08.4

following Easter. If you're listening to this on Wednesday, May 8th, you know that that was just

2:16.2

a couple days ago. So perhaps you'll have to mark your

2:20.2

calendar for next year. But the divine mercy is an incredible day that Jesus himself spoke to Faustina

2:28.0

about. Now, if we remember Easter, we celebrate Easter for eight days. We talk about the octave of Easter.
