0:46.6

St. Damien was a Belgian priest, so he lived in Europe in Belgium.

0:52.4

However, as a priest, he left Belgium and went to an island in Hawaii,

1:19.4

They oftentimes had very little food, very little to support or medicine or education.

1:32.8

They were simply just abandoned. But Father Damien had mercy on them. He went to them in their pain and their suffering, and he gave his whole life to serve them.

1:39.7

He dressed their wounds. He taught them. He built them shelters. He gave them everything. He loved them

1:47.7

in the way that Jesus loved us. So that is the great saint, Father Damian of Molokai, who had great

1:55.3

pity on those suffering from leprosy. Now, this week, we, of course, have been talking about the divine mercy devotion.

2:02.8

We talked about the fact that mercy is love when it encounters suffering, pain, and sin.

2:08.3

We talked about St. Faustina, this mystic, who received visions of Jesus that are how we know about

2:15.0

the divine mercy devotion. We talked about the feast, Divine Mercy Sunday.

2:20.5

We talked about the image that Jesus wanted painted of himself

2:24.1

so that we might know how he loves us

2:26.4

and how mercy is his gift to us.

2:30.2

We also talked about the nine-day prayer for the Divine Mercy, the novena, the chaplet, which we say with a rosary, and finally, the hour of mercy, which is between three and four o'clock every single day.
