Hey there, sproutsouts. Today is Friday, March 21st, 2025. This week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, we have been working our way through the Catholic ABCs talking about

soul for S. We have already established that the soul is the animating

principle inside the body, that humans are body and soul, but in one nature. I've also talked

about the breath that God breathed into us, and also the virtue of hope that reminds us that our souls are

immortal and that their true home is heaven. Today we are going to talk about the moment of death

and also the resurrection of the body. Before we dive into that, please join me in our March prayer,

the Fatima prayer, in the name of our March prayer, the Fatima Prayer.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, amen.

Oh, my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell.

Lead all souls to heaven, especially those who are in most need of thy mercy. Amen.

So we have a body. We have a soul. They are combined in one nature. But what happens at death?

Well, what happens at death is that our body and our soul are separated.

Our soul, which is immortal, will go and stand before God in what the church refers to as immediate judgment. So at the moment of death, we will be judged all on our

own based on what we did and what we failed to do during this life. Did we belong to Jesus?

Or did we say no to Jesus? So that will be immediate judgment. The church teaches that death is so

painful because of this rip, this separation of body and soul. Our one nature is pulled apart.

But that's not the end of the story. Just as Jesus dying on the cross was not the

end of the story. We all know how it ends. Jesus rose from the dead three days later. And when he rose,
