+ THURSDAY: The 10 Commandments are how we live out Justice.

Today is Monday, November 11, 2014.

Today is also the feast day of St. Martin of Tours. St. Martin of Tours lived during the early church when the Christians were still being persecuted. Before he converted to

Christianity, he served in the Emperor's Army in Rome. One day, while he was riding through the city, it was the winter, it was very cold. And as he passed through the gates, he passed a poor man who was shivering. He had only thin rags covering him. And he had already heard the message of Jesus Christ and seen the charity of Christians,

so though he had not yet converted. But he was moved with pity for this man, so he took his sword

and cut his own cloak in half and gave half to this poor man. Then he rode on. That night he had a dream. Jesus appeared to him and showed him

that he had been that poor man shivering by the gate and that by him cutting his cloak in half,

he had actually given comfort to Jesus.

Following this, St. Martin converted.

He lived for a long time as a hermit.

Eventually, he moved to Tours, France, and served as a faithful bishop.
