Hey there, Spouts. Today is Wednesday, October 30th, 2024. This week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, we are talking about indulgences for the letter I as we continue to move our

way through the ABCs of the Catholic faith,

we have already talked in a general sense about what an indulgence is, how it frees us from

the temporal consequence of sins that we have already committed.

Yesterday we talked a lot about what an indulgence is not, and today we're going to dig

deeper into an indulgence and also what it

means for eternal life or the three destinations that we can go to after this life is over.

But before we dive into this very big topic, please join me in the morning offering that we are learning this month.

O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer you my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day for all the intentions

of your sacred heart, in union with the holy sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world,

in reparation for my sins, for the intentions of all my relatives and friends, and in particular, for the intentions of the

Holy Father, amen. So to go a little bit deeper in the definition of an indulgence, an indulgence

is a extra sacramental remission of the temporal punishment of sin. So extra sacramental means that it

happens outside of the Mass, the confessional. Now, oftentimes, Mass, and confession are part of an

indulgence, but it's kind of outside or above and containing these things.

An indulgence is also, it only happens through God's mercy, who alone can forgive sins.

And the rules about an indulgence are set up by the church because God gave the church authority to do these things.
