Hello sprouts. Today is Thursday, October 10th, 2024, and it is the Feast Day of St. Francis Borgia.

My name is Father Andrew Hamilton of the Diocese of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, and this week

we're going over the signs and symbols of the faith. But first, let's start

with St. Francis Borgia. Francis was born to a wealthy and powerful family, and he would

become the Duke of Spain. He would live his first 33 years of life as a good husband to his wife Eleanor and a good father to their eight children.

After his wife Eleanor would pass away, he would go on to become a Jesuit priest.

This entailed great change and conversion in his life.

He went from the princely courts of Spain to being a simple cook in a Jesuit religious

house. There he would have to carry wood for the fire and sweep the kitchen and serve the other

priests, all while having to apologize for his clumsiness. But he took on this great poverty in a humble and contrite spirit. And from there,

the Lord would raise him up in the Jesuit order to be the superior general, where he would have

a great influence on the missions of the Jesuits all over the world. He would send out priests

to many different areas, but especially the Americas, where

they would spread the faith, baptizing many in the practice of the faith. St. Francis

Borja, amongst all of this, remained completely humble, and now he has exalted in heaven

and remembered in the life of the church on October 10th.
