It's week six of our journey through the ABC's of the Catholic Faith. This week are on the letter F, which stands for FORGIVENESS! Join us this week as we explore how central Forgiveness is for us as Catholics.

+ MONDAY: Nothing is unforgivable

+ TUESDAY: God alone can forgive sins

+ WEDNESDAY: Sorrow for our sins is the first step of Forgiveness

+ THURSDAY: We go to confession because Jesus told us to.

+ FRIDAY: We imitate Jesus when we forgive others

Today is Friday, September 20th, 2020.

Today we remember a number of very brave, heroic, remarkable martyrs in Korea.

Chief among them is Andrew Kim Tagon, and he died in the year 1839.

Now, the story of the Catholic faith in Korea is just simply remarkable.

The Catholic faith was brought to Korea by lay people.

Some of them had been out in other Asian parts of the world.

They had encountered Christianity.

They brought back the Bible and the Catholic teachings.

Lay groups of people studied and grew in the faith.

And it was many, many years after this until the first priest, missionary priest,

arrived in Korea, and he was astounded to find the faith already there with vibrant,

fervent believers.

Unfortunately, as the church began to grow, it met persecution.

Andrew Kim Taigon was the first native-born Korean to be ordained a priest.

And so at the time, in Korea, the hierarchy, the king and the queen, they held onto their position

because of their ancestors.

In Korea, they worshipped their ancestors and just knowing exactly who your family was

and if they were important was very powerful.
